IPCO, a leading manufacturers of processing systems for composite materials, will use China Composites 2024 to highlight a number of innovative applications for its double belt presses, scattering systems and film casting lines. These include components for dry process batteries, recycling applications, bio-based materials and more.
The company is a globally-active engineering group with manufacturing bases in China, Europe and the USA. Its systems are widely used for the production of composite materials for the automotive, aerospace, flooring, construction, non-woven, and textile industries.
Process solutions for energy storage innovation
IPCO process solutions are enabling the development of new materials and technologies for batteries and fuel cells. A number of leading manufacturers are using ScatterPro scattering technology and ThermoPress double belt presses in R&D work to create the next generation electrodes and solid electrolytes that will deliver higher density batteries.
IPCO also supplies a continuous film casting system incorporating a Venturi dryer that enables the production of film products and ceramic tapes to exceptionally narrow tolerances. This makes it ideal for high-precision films, membranes and ceramic tapes used as separators in fuel cells and solid state batteries.
New ScatterPro FX system for recycling applications
Another rapidly growing market is the recycling industry and IPCO recently announced the launch of a new ScatterPro precisions scattering system specifically developed for this (but not only) application.
Designed especially to scatter bigger amount of material especially for voluminous materials. Customer can safe investment costs (only one unit instead of two (depending on material and requirement) and automatically reduce energy consumption.
Applications include the conversion of rubber scrap into value added materials used by the construction industry, the recycling of wind turbine blades and the use of industrial waste in floor coverings.
Sustainable bio-based leather alternative
IPCO will have details of how its ThermoPress double belt press technology has enabled the production of a new plant-based alternative to leather. MIRUM®, a sustainable leather-like material produced by US manufacturer NFW, is manufactured on a ThermoPress CB (CombiBelt), a multistage production system that combines the economy of PTFE belts with the high-pressure performance of steel belt modules.
Composite solutions for the transportation and construction industries
ThermoPress systems enable multiple stages of production – including heating, curing and cooling – to be incorporated into a single process. A choice of belt types and pressure modules allows systems to be configured to meet virtually any pressure and heating requirements.
IPCO’s scattering systems and double belt presses provide the foundation for the production of a whole range of composite materials including automotive bodywork and interior panels, as well as panels for RVs and trucks. The construction industry is another important market, with applications including flooring, acoustic panels, cladding and façade systems.
Scalable R&D at IPCO Productivity Centers
Research into new technologies and associated production processes requires pilot solutions that can be quickly scaled up and industrialized. IPCO has committed significant investment into its Shanghai Productivity Center, a facility where customers can access the equipment and technical expertize to carry out testing, feasibility studies and process optimization with minimal risk.
