Automation Supplier Supporting Net Zero Goals: Visit COPA-DATA at All Energy 2022

Automation software supplier, COPA-DATA will exhibit at the All-Energy trade show for the first time, held between 11-12 May 2022 at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC), Glasgow. Focused on helping companies to become net zero, COPA-DATA will be showcasing its latest zenon platform software along with several application demonstrations that help to visualise the monitoring and control systems of renewable energy, energy storage and digital substations. COPA-DATA will be at stand D31.

The needs of the energy sector are changing, and the All-Energy trade show brings industry experts together to help engineer a net zero future. To support the energy industry’s shift towards renewable resources, COPA-DATA will be displaying its latest innovations at the show — such as its zenon Software Platform for smart grids.

The software provides the necessary interfaces, control functions and overview options to achieve transparency across an entire grid. It can also be deployed across almost any communication standard and brings reams of data into one, unified place to streamline processes.

COPA-DATA’s zenon is also certified against the current IEC 61850 protocol to standardise communication across the grid. In addition, zenon uses a range of other protocols to enable communication between a whole host of different devices, regardless of their age, manufacturer or protocol.

There will also be a series of live demonstrations at the stand, focusing on data management and how to report on data effectively. The first demo is on substation human machine interface (HMI), photovoltaics (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Here, the PV and BESS application sets boasts out-of-the-box control. And, if using COPA-DATA’s SunSpec data model to convey device data between two devices, all internal tagging can be preconfigured.

Other demonstrations are centred around renewable energy, including wind farm applications, with engine wind reports and the energy data management system (EDMS). The new EDMS demo explains how users can maximise uptime, while reducing energy consumption to achieve net-zero, by understanding energy usage to individual process level.

“The industrial sector accounted for 38 per cent of total global final energy use in the past couple of years,” explained Aaron Cowdry, Energy Technical Consultant at COPA-DATA UK. “Users must find ways of reducing energy consumption and, at the show, we will show how industrial manufacturers can control processes with the same system to achieve that.

“For example, one way is through gathering data. Data is value, so an EDMS should use Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to gather consumption data from the entire facility. By analysing different equipment and processes, this data allows operators to make smarter decisions and achieve net-zero goals.”
