WEG attended Hydrogen Technology World Expo 2025

WEG showcased motors, drives and energy solutions that support the energy transition

WEG, a global leader in motors, drives and energy solutions has recently attended the Hydrogen Technology World Expo 2025, which took place from October 21 to 23 at Messe Hamburg, Germany. At stand 4D35 in hall B4, WEG featured its hydrogen production and energy transition technologies like rectifiers, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and the WEGmotion drives portfolio.

WEG’s promotion on stand 4D35, in hall B4 at this year’s Hydrogen Technology World Expo, included its modular BESS solutions for energy storage and management. WEG’s BESS is designed to address numerous needs in the power sector — including power stability, peak shaving and energy shifting.

WEG’s BESS solutions provide real-time monitoring and high energy density in a robust, low-maintenance platform compatible with renewables such as wind and solar. Acting as a large rechargeable battery, the system stores excess electricity for later use, balancing variable generation and ensuring a steady power supply for hydrogen production.

Designed for electrolysis support, it includes a bidirectional converter, transformer, battery bank and a dedicated E-House — a unit that houses all critical electrical equipment with integrated fire protection and HVAC for reliable, long-term operation.

Visitors to WEG’s stand also had the opportunity to see how WEG is already actively involved in hydrogen projects worldwide.

WEG’s rectifiers for green hydrogen production was demonstrated through a 3D model at the stand. This system converts AC to DC to power electrolysis, the process of splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity that is crucial to green hydrogen production. Designed for performance and durability, WEG’s line of rectifiers — thyristor for large-scale reliability, diode for cost-efficient simplicity and Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) for precise, flexible control — ensures the right fit for any hydrogen electrolysis plant.

“Hydrogen is widely recognised as a cornerstone of global decarbonisation strategies,” said Ralph Klein, Sales and Marketing Manager at WEG Germany. “As adoption increases, energy infrastructure must evolve to support the safe, efficient and large-scale production of green hydrogen. To this end, WEG is involved in supplying high-efficiency synchronous motors, full rectification systems and automation equipment to green hydrogen plants across Europe, the Americas and Asia.”

WEG also presented its WEGmotion drives portfolio, a flexible suite of high-efficiency motors, gearboxes, inverters and control systems that form the backbone of hydrogen plant operations — driving pumps and compressors, managing mechanical loads and ensuring smooth, efficient system performance. Purpose-built for demanding industrial environments, these solutions deliver energy efficiency, process optimisation and long-term durability.

“Showcasing our expertise at Hydrogen Technology World Expo 2025 was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to advancing clean energy technologies,” added Klein. “By offering a complete, integrated package of motors, drives and gearboxes, we help customers reduce complexity, lower operating costs and improve overall system efficiency. Our goal is to support the clean energy transition with proven, scalable technologies that enhance safety, performance and sustainability across hydrogen applications.”
