Double Victory Secures MGS Spot in MakeUK National Finals

A robust business growth strategy and sustainability campaign propels MGS Technical Plastics from the North West manufacturing awards competition organised by MakeUK to the national finals. The overall UK winners will be announced in January 2026.

Lancashire-based MGS, a leading name in the manufacturing sector, recently achieved the top honour of winning two prestigious regional MakeUK manufacturing awards. As well as being crowned winner of the Business Growth & Strategy category in the North West regionals, MGS also scooped the Energy & Sustainability title.

This double win now means that the company has secured two opportunities to be judged in the upcoming national finals for each category, as well as a chance of winning the special prize of Manufacturer of the Year. The company was also named runner up for SME of the North West region.

Celebrating MGS’s impressive expansion and market development in the past three years, judges acknowledged the company’s strategic vision. Among the many achievements, judges noted MGS’s proactive investment in new technology, apprenticeships, diversification into new markets and an innovative approach to using social media to boost enquiries and raise business.

Winning the Energy & Sustainability accolade further underscores MGS’s dedication to responsible business practices. Industry judges were especially impressed by the company’s continuous eco-conscious approach towards manufacturing which in five years has seen the company halve its carbon footprint. MGS’s sustainability strategy includes implementing energy-efficient production methods, waste reduction initiatives, and support for circular economy principles.

Dawn Huntrod, Region Director for Make UK in the North comments that these awards are testament to the dynamic companies and individuals working within engineering and manufacturing. “The sector remains at the heart of creating wealth in the North West and, as we grow our economy, there will be a bright future for companies and individuals that make the most of their talent.”

Expressing immense pride in the MGS team, Managing Director Judson Smythe adds: “Winning these awards is fantastic recognition of the dedication and relentless drive of team MGS. This is an incredibly exciting time for us as a business. We are building real momentum and moving from strength to strength as we head into an exciting next chapter.”

With these regional victories, MGS will now represent the North West at the national finals, competing with other top-performing manufacturing companies from across the country. Having the opportunity to showcase these achievements on the wider manufacturing stage and have these efforts recognised by industry experts is especially exciting for the MGS team.

Earlier this month, MGS won the Manufacturing Excellence Award and another highly commended trophy for Company of the Year at the Northern Automotive Alliance Awards. To conclude the award season and hoping to bring home a final team win on 21 November 2025, the company is also a finalist in two Plastics Industry Awards, including Processor of the Year and Material Innovation.
