O’Reilly Media Names Julie Baron as Next President

Baron succeeds outgoing president Laura Baldwin, who will retire following a 25-year tenure at O’Reilly

O’Reilly, the premier learning platform for technology professionals, today announced the appointment of Julie Baron as the company’s next president. Baron succeeds Laura Baldwin, who will retire after leading O’Reilly for the past 15 years as president and guiding the company as an executive since 2001.

Baron enters the president role with over 20 years of experience in tech and media, including nearly a decade at O’Reilly. Since 2024, she’s led the company’s product vision as chief product officer, positioning O’Reilly to take full advantage of the promise of AI. Prior to her time at O’Reilly, Baron served in strategic roles at NPR, Boston Globe Media, EnerNOC, and IPSoft/Amelia AI.

“Julie steps into the president’s role at a pivotal moment, as enterprises move from AI experimentation to AI accountability,” said O’Reilly former president Laura Baldwin. “Her curiosity about technology, her leadership capabilities, and her inherent empathy make her the perfect successor to carry on the mission Tim O’Reilly established, and I have nurtured.”

“O’Reilly’s 45-year legacy of guiding organizations through major technology transitions has never been more relevant, and Baron’s deep product-centered leadership will help the company sharpen that value proposition for a new generation of customers and learners,” said O’Reilly founder and CEO Tim O’Reilly. “Julie is a wonderful thought partner for me and for everybody in the organization because she brings out the quality of exploration and reinvention.”

“Laura has been an inspirational leader who has navigated this company over the years through many transformations,” said Julie Baron. “I’m incredibly thankful for her mentorship and honored to be chosen to lead O’Reilly at such an exciting time in technology. There’s so much that we can do with AI. We need to be thinking critically, disrupting ourselves, driving innovation, and reexamining what we’re doing to provide value to our customers in new ways. I continue to be inspired by our values, our vision, and our mission to spread the knowledge of innovators. They’ll continue to be the heart of O’Reilly, and they’re what will take us to the next stage of our growth.”
