WEG UK Announces New Managing Director

WEG, the industrial equipment manufacturer, has announced Gustavo da Silva as its new UK managing director. Da Silva, who began his career as a trainee at WEG’s headquarters in Brazil over 20 years ago, has established himself as a trusted leader in the electrical equipment sector. He succeeds Patrick O’Neill, who is retiring after an impressive 28 years with WEG.

Da Silva’s appointment comes at a time when WEG UK is experiencing significant success. The company was recently named Supplier of the Year at the 2025 Pump Industry Awards — recognition of WEG UK’s technical innovation for the pump, oil and gas, power, mining and industrial sectors.

A qualified Mechanical Engineer with an Executive MBA from Aston and the Executive Leadership program from Oxford, da Silva has spent his career nurturing key relationships with EPC contractors, OEMs and End-Users. Before his appointment as managing director at WEG UK, he served as sales manager for High Voltage Solutions (HVS) in Europe and the Middle East for several years, where he led the exponential growth of WEG’s presence in critical infrastructure projects in several segments across the region.

“I am honoured to step into this role and continue to build on the strong foundation and success WEG UK has achieved,” said da Silva. “WEG is renowned for its innovation, operational excellence and customer-focused solutions and I look forward to ensuring we continue to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient solutions for the UK market.”

A driver of WEG UK’s success is the company’s growing manufacturing and distribution network in Europe. In October 2024, WEG opened a state-of-the-art facility in Santo Tirso, Portugal, covering more than 100,000 square metres, with 45,000 square metres dedicated to the production of motors and drives.

WEG operates a large stock of products at its central UK site, which also features a specialist gearbox assembly line. In addition, the company has made significant investments in its European supply chain by operating a major distribution centre in Germany. This facility plays a role in ensuring rapid delivery of WEG products to the UK.

WEG UK is ready to embrace a new chapter with da Silva at the helm. This year, the company will be exhibiting at several UK events, including the Water Equipment Show on 15 May at the International Centre, Telford, and SPE Offshore Europe from 2-5 September at P&J Live, Aberdeen.
