PEI-Genesis launches whitepaper on evolution of RF connectors

Connector specialist PEI-Genesis has released a new in-depth whitepaper exploring the technology, history and applications of radio frequency (RF) connectors, the precision-engineered components that make modern wireless communication possible. Powering the wireless revolution: A guide to RF connectors  charts the journey of RF connectors from their origins in early radio systems to their current role in innovative technologies, such as 5G and quantum computing.

RF connectors, designed to operate at radio frequencies in the multi-megahertz range, are essential for connecting coaxial cables and enabling secure, low-loss signal transmission. The whitepaper explores their evolution, from early VHF and UHF designs in the 1920s and 1930s to the development of military-grade solutions such as the type N and BNC connectors in the mid-20th century.

It also traces the refinement of miniature formats like the SMA connector, which became a global standard for applications in networking, wireless communications and GPS.

The guide goes on to highlight the performance capabilities of modern RF connectors, including environmental sealing to IP68 standards, high-power handling for demanding broadcast and radar applications and the ultra-low-loss designs required for precision quantum computing operations.

One of the standout sections explores the intersection between RF technology and quantum computing. The paper explains how RF connectors help control qubits, the basic units of quantum information at cryogenic temperatures. This precision is essential for accurate qubit manipulation and even minimal signal degradation can impact system performance.

“In this guide, we examine the engineering advances that have allowed RF components to meet the increasingly demanding requirements of industries ranging from aerospace to consumer electronics”, explains Federico Sangregorio, EMEA RF Manager at PEI-Genesis.

“The paper is designed to give engineers and decision-makers the clarity and detail they need to make informed choices about RF technology, both for today’s applications and the innovations of tomorrow”.

PEI-Genesis is a trusted partner for organisations seeking high-performance RF solutions. The company’s portfolio includes SMA, BNC, MIL-STD-1553B connectors from leading manufacturers such as Amphenol RF, Times Microwave Systems, Micro-Mode and Carlisle. These products support a broad spectrum of industries and applications, from consumer devices to mission-critical aerospace systems.

The release of the whitepaper reflects PEI-Genesis’ commitment to sharing technical expertise and supporting innovation in the connectivity sector.

The full whitepaper is available to download at peigenesis.com, where readers can also explore the company’s complete RF connector range.
