Kerlink Unveils New-Generation Wirnet™ iStation M2 Gateway: Powering the ‘Age of Edge’ in Remote Environments

Kerlink has introduced its new-generation Wirnet™ iStation M2 LoRaWAN gateway, designed to support reliable IoT connectivity in remote and off-grid environments such as industrial sites, mining operations, utilities infrastructure and isolated territories.

With power consumption below 1.8W, the gateway supports solar-powered operation, enabling continuous deployment in areas with limited access to power and backhaul. This makes it particularly suited for Industry 4.0 use cases requiring scalable and autonomous connectivity.

Built on Semtech’s SX1302 LoRa core, the Wirnet™ iStation M2 enhances network capacity with increased demodulation capabilities and support for faster spreading factors (SF5/SF6). It also integrates edge processing capabilities via an NXP i.MX 8XLite processor, allowing data to be processed locally to reduce latency and bandwidth usage.

The gateway supports multiple backhaul options, including 4G/5G, Wi-Fi and Ethernet, and integrates with major LoRaWAN network server platforms such as Actility, ChirpStack and The Things Network.

By combining ultra-low power design, LPWAN connectivity and edge computing, the Wirnet™ iStation M2 reflects a broader shift toward distributed, resilient IoT infrastructures in industrial environments.
