Creating the next wave of smart manufacturing with Mendix Connect for Workstation

The extension of Mendix’s AI offering is transforming the productivity of manufacturers

Mendix, a Siemens business, today announced the addition of Mendix Connect for Workstation to its leading software development platform. The intelligent and composable solution ramps up productivity levels for shop floor operators. With Workstation, manufacturers can build cloud-based applications that interact directly with shop floor tools like barcode scanners, label printers, and industrial scales, streamlining efficiency without complicated setups.

Manufacturers grapple with a litany of industry challenges: skilled labour shortages, integration complexity, deep customisation needs, and project scope, to name but a few. Manufacturing organisations need easy-to-implement technology that minimises disruptions and can connect their IT infrastructure to their line of operations. Workstation allows cloud-based applications to access and control shop floor and client device utilities, generating better output quality and regulatory compliance.

Further key features embedded in Workstation include:

  • Real-time interaction with local devices for quick, errorless operations

  • Centralised management for multi-site deployment and device health monitoring

  • Seamless integration with existing shop floor and enterprise systems

The introduction of Workstation further underscores Mendix’s dedication to helping its customers embrace innovation. Manufacturers grasp the transformative potential of GenAI and Agentic AI, but many have yet to see the tangible benefits. Mendix is committed to simplifying complex, cross-system workflows and augmenting workforce decision-making with generative and agentic artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities like:

  • Intelligent document processing and natural language interfaces for knowledge bases and proprietary LLMs

  • Autonomous orchestration of complex workflows with agentic AI to modernise and optimise legacy systems

  • Built-in controls for AI governance, control, security, and cost management.

“From rising product complexity and supply chain disruptions to changing workforces and siloed legacy systems, manufacturers are being challenged today in so many ways,” said Koert Hagoort, Senior Vice President of Product and Technology at Mendix. “As the demand for real-time data and intelligent automation grows, Workstation is empowering the industry through innovation, helping our customers weather any disruption and thrive.”
