AI+3D Vision Platform ‘A Robot Integrator’s Dream’

Machine Vision Conference (MVC), 20 - 21 June 2023 Stand Number 21, Coventry Building Society Arena

At the Machine Vision Conference (MVC), co-located with the brand-new BARA exhibition Automation UK, Scorpion Vision (Stand 21) will show how Mech Mind’s new generation AI+3D robot vision tech can support rapid development of 3D vision for robot picking challenges. The machine vision automation expert will use a random bin picking application to illustrate how, by automating much of the application building process, Mech Mind’s intelligent robot solutions can accelerate the design of challenging 3D robot vision applications.

Paul Wilson, managing director at Scorpion Vision, says: Mech-Mind’s AI+3D robot solutions are both ingenious and simple. They essentially provide the key building blocks that system integrators and machine builders need to design 3D vision driven robots. Instead of having to develop the machine vision software or AI element from scratch, users can simply incorporate these ready-to-use applications into the system architecture. This dramatically reduces the time, complexity and cost involved in developing vision-guided robots, making it very easy to create what have previously been considered challenging 3D robot vision applications.”

Mech-Eye industrial cameras generate high resolution, detail-rich 3D images in the toughest of environments

Mech Mind’s suite of AI+3D vision solutions for robots combines high performance industrial cameras with intelligent platform software. The core hardware module is the Mech-Eye industrial camera, which has integrated light sources, sensors and processing. Three complementary software applications complete the package: Mech-Vision is the machine vision software element; Mech-Viz is the bundled robot programming software and Mech-DLK enables creation of deep learning applications. When these building blocks are used in combination, users can quickly design automation applications.

Mech Mind’s 3D+AI solution is ideal for a range of manufacturing and logistics applications, from bin picking to case packing, palletising and depalletizing

Typically, users will start by using Mech-Vision to develop the vision application. Once this is completed, Mech-Viz software takes the picking coordinate data from the camera and translates it into the real world dynamic position for the robot. Most robot brands have been programmed into the system, so interfacing the Mech Mind system to a robot is a simple button press.

Delegates will be able to see Mech Mind’s AI+3D vision tech in action at the Machine Vision Conference (MVC), where it will form the backbone of a robot cell for picking multiple SKUs from a bin. Scorpion Vision has worked with Kawasaki Robotics to build a vision guided robot cell that locates a number of random retail products in a bin, identifies the ideal picking position, angle and pose and then sends the robot to that position to perform the pick. This system could typically be deployed by a home delivery grocery service for picking random items from bins on demand to fulfil shopping orders.

Machine builders can order both the cameras and software for Mech Mind’s AI+3D vision technology solution online from Scorpion Vision’s new web shop.

Mech Mind’s new generation vision platform for robots is a toolset that enables rapid development of 3D vision for a range of manufacturing and logistics applications, from bin picking to case packing, palletising and depalletising. For more complex automation applications, such as the processing of variable food products, Scorpion Vision can work directly with manufacturers to build from the ground up bespoke AI-powered 3D vision solutions based on Scorpion 3D Neural Stereo Vision.
