High-Level EU Delegation Meets with Members of Congress Organized by Regulating AI

As part of their consistent efforts aimed at fostering international collaboration and dialogue towards regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Regulating AI facilitated an ‘AI Regulation Roundtable’ on 16th May at the Cannon House Office Building with a distinguished delegation from the European Union’s Department for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (CNECT)- a regulatory body at the forefront of shaping Europe’s digital future.

The objectives of the Roundtable were to foster meaningful dialogue between CNECT and Members of Congress keen on exploring the intricacies of the EU AI Act and related topics.

Regulating AI is diligently working towards the development of inclusive and responsible regulatory frameworks. Founder of Regulating AI, Mr. Sanjay Puri, said, “As we stand on the cusp of a new era defined by Artificial Intelligence, it is imperative that we harmonize regulations globally. Together, we have the opportunity to shape a future where AI serves as a force for good in society.”

Led by Mr. Roberto Viola, Director General of CNECT, the EU delegation brought a wealth of experience, expertise and perspectives to the table. Mr. Viola’s profound understanding of electronic engineering and telecom regulation offered invaluable insights into the EU’s approach to AI regulation.

Representing Virginia’s 8th Congressional District, Congressmen Donald S. Beyer Jr., in his remarks said, “Fostering meaningful dialogue with our global partners is crucial as we seek to understand the complexities of AI and maximize its societal benefits. This conversation provided a valuable opportunity to evaluate forward-thinking solutions that will minimize the negative impacts of AI and foster significant advancements in technology, medicine, and other areas.” He added, “The implications of AI are global, and continued international cooperation is essential as we seek to create a balanced and equitable AI-driven future.”

This Roundtable showcased the significance of international cooperation in addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by unregulated use of AI technologies.
