WEG becomes the first company in the world to launch a fully pre-verified system for issuing Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for electric motors

The manufacturer establishes as the first in the world

Reinforcing its pioneering spirit, WEG becomes the first company in the world to develop its own system, verified by EPD International AB, for issuing Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for electric motors. WEG has an approved fully pre-verified system for issuing Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for electric motors.

WEG has set a new milestone in the industrial sector. The company has been approved by EPD International as the first company in the world to have a fully pre-verified EPD tool for electric motors. The tool, “WEG EcoHub Version 1.0”, is based on PCR 2022:06 – Electric motors and generators and their parts (for industrial applications) – and is designed for publishing EPDs in the International EPD System in compliance with ISO 14025. This achievement sets a new global benchmark for transparency and sustainability in the electric motor market.

EPDs are standardized and verified documents that describe the environmental performance of a product throughout its entire life cycle — from raw material extraction to final disposal. These environmental declarations are widely recognised and provide transparency and reliability, enabling companies and consumers to make more conscious choices aligned with their sustainable development in goals and CO2e reduction targets.

“Our own system for generating EPDs offers transparency into the lifecycle of our products, empowering customers to make informed decisions and choose the most efficient solutions for their operations. Certifying our system shows our commitment to minimizing environmental impact and contributing to a more sustainable future”, explains Rodrigo Fumo, Managing Director of Industrial Motors at WEG.

With the approval of its fully pre-verified EPD generation system, WEG positions itself globally at the forefront of the industry. In addition to being a pioneer with this model, the company allows consumers to access verified information about the environmental impacts of its electric motors.

Portfolio of certified products

WEG has a certified EPD for its W22, W51HD and W23 Sync+ motor lines. This progress emphasizes the company’s ongoing commitment to expanding certified and environmentally responsible solutions for the global market.

As a global reference in the electric motor sector, WEG reaffirms its commitment to environmental transparency, delivering solutions that meet the highest standards of efficiency and innovation. This achievement highlights WEG’s leadership in integrating cutting-edge technology, efficiency, and environmental responsibility, promoting a more sustainable future for the industry and the planet.
