Streamlining Christmas production

North Pole uses Beckhoff’s flexible linear transport systems to guarantee on-time present delivery

To ensure presents are delivered on time to children around the world, Santa’s Workshop has announced that it will be using Beckhoff’s XTS and XPlanar linear product transport systems to move toys across the North Pole at record speed. The workshop, famous for its candy-cane conveyor belts and reindeer-powered logistics, is embracing high-tech automation to meet the growing demand of today’s wish lists.

Beckhoff’s systems bring a level of flexibility and precision the elves have only dreamed of. The XTS combines the benefits of linear and rotary systems in one mechatronic package, helping gifts travel along custom tracks independently or in coordinated clusters. For areas like the North Pole bakery and candy labs, Santa has deployed the Hygienic XTS version, designed to withstand sticky sweets, chocolate spills, and even the occasional frosting explosion.

“The XPlanar brings a whole new kind of magic to the workshop,” explains Chris Kringle, Head of Seasonal Logistics at Santa’s Workshop. “The movers float above configurable planar tiles, gliding silently and smoothly across our factory floor. Because the movers can travel in almost any direction, there are so many possibilities for routing toys.

“These movers are contact-free and wear-free, making it easier for us to transport fragile stocking stuffers, like snow globes, chocolate and delicate trinkets,” added Kringle. “There’s no fear of gifts arriving late or damaged this Christmas!”

Both systems are built for speed, precision and reliability. The XTS can be customised to any track length or layout, with each mover programmed for its own profile. Whether it’s a delicate snow globe or a stack of wooden blocks, every gift moves exactly where it needs to go — without collisions, jams, or unnecessary sprinting from elves.

With Beckhoff’s flexible transport system technologies in place, Santa’s Workshop is ready to tackle the busiest season yet. From assembly to packaging to sleigh loading, every stage is optimised to ensure presents leave the North Pole on schedule, helping Santa keep his reputation for delivering Christmas joy around the world.

It’s not just the North Pole that can benefit. Linear transport systems such as XTS and XPlanar can help production facilities improve flexibility, positioning, precision and efficiency all year round. To find out more, visit the Beckhoff website.
