Quantum Science Ltd (QS), a leading British nanomaterials innovator, has secured a funding win in the form of a grant from Innovate UK’s Analysis for Innovators (A4I) competition.
The grant is set to provide a substantial boost to QS’ work developing and commercialising its patented INFIQ® quantum dot (QD) technology. INFIQ® QDs promise to be a vital breakthrough in bringing advanced short-wave infrared (SWIR) sensing and imaging technology to the mass market. This could herald huge leaps in intelligent and ambient technology, providing sensors for self-driving cars, next-generation medical imaging, 3D mapping for smartphones, and more.
The award, part of the seventh round of A4I funding, is the latest mark of recognition for INFIQ® QDs, which have attracted intense interest from a range of industries and have previously been awarded A4I funding in its sixth round. The funding gives businesses access to world-leading experts and cutting-edge facilities and techniques to solve existing analysis or measurement problems.
Dr Hao Pang, Quantum Science CEO and founder, welcomed the news stating, “Everyone at QS believes INFIQ® technology has the potential to disrupt several multi-billion USD markets, and it is immensely gratifying to see our belief supported by another A4I grant.
“As we are working on such a groundbreaking project, many of the challenges we face are completely novel. This funding is vital for helping us overcome these challenges on the road to mass market commercialisation and adoption.”
The grant will be used to fund cutting-edge technique development into the measurement of nanoscale surfaces in collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) – one of the most prestigious laboratories in the UK, and one that is regarded as the gold standard in measurement science.
QS recently made headlines following significant breakthroughs in its development of lead-free QDs and the formulation of QD inks. The A4I grant is expected to boost QS’ productivity and competitiveness as work on these groundbreaking solutions continues at a rapid pace. It arrives as the UK continues to flourish as one of the world’s key quantum technology hubs.
Dr Pang added, “Our existing relationship with the NPL is very strong following our previous A4I funding win. It has already provided crucial insights into our unique INFIQ® materials and their valuable properties, and we expect this latest award will turbocharge our innovative processes as we bridge the gap between lab scale and the mass market production.”
