Kontron Drives Growth in Edge AI with Intel Panther Lake Platforms

Less complexity, more performance: New platforms enable more efficient and cost-effective AI applications at the edge

Kontron, a leading global provider of IoT/Embedded Computer Technology (ECT), is expanding its position in the dynamically growing edge AI market. Up and coming products like the high-performance computing board VX30101 designed for real-time AI applications at the edge or the new 3.5″-SBC-PTL will already be powered by the new Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3.

The new Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 (Intel codename: Panther Lake) offers a decisive advantage for industrial AI applications: the combination of CPU, GPU, and NPU in a highly integrated chip enables more compact, energy-efficient, and cost-effective IoT solutions. This means less hardware, reduced complexity, and faster implementation.

Significant added value for industrial applications

The benefits are particularly evident in high-growth application areas, such as robotics and automation, for Kontron customers. Kontron will thus be able to bundle image processing, data analysis, and control for customers on a single platform in future, taking a further step towards the standardization of IoT software in the AI sector.

Kontron’s “AI Solution Boxes” are specifically designed for such scenarios. They combine high computing power with optimized interfaces for cameras, sensors and industrial communication. This enables the realization of compact solutions for applications such as machine vision, automation, and robotics, whilst simultaneously reducing system costs.

Edge AI for safety-critical applications

This opens up new possibilities in safety-critical sectors, such as defense, aviation, and infrastructure. In these areas, the rapid and highly secure processing of large volumes of data is particularly crucial. To meet these requirements, Kontron has developed a new high-performance computing board (VX30101), designed for real-time AI applications at the edge. Typical applications in the defense sector include sensor fusion, autonomous systems, and ISR applications. The platform enables the consolidation of previously distributed systems into a high-performance solution – a decisive advantage wherever space, power consumption, and reliability are critical. The market launch is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2026.

With the planned integration into system platforms such as HARAKAN, Kontron is expanding its defense offering to include scalable AI server solutions for robust edge deployments.

Early market positioning as a strategic advantage

Kontron is among the first suppliers to already offer the Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 in embedded products. Also coming soon is the new 3.5″-SBC-PTL, a new compact system specifically developed for industrial Edge AI applications in sectors such as robotics, machine vision, or intelligent control systems, which require high efficiency, advanced AI acceleration, and outstanding graphics performance.

The collaboration with Intel forms a key foundation for Kontron’s strategic development in the AI sector.

“Edge AI is one of the key growth drivers for the coming years – and with Panther Lake, AI performance is shifting much more significantly to the Edge,” says Philipp Schulz, Member of the Executive Board at Kontron. “For our customers, this means simpler system architectures and new application possibilities. We see considerable growth potential here.”
