Demonstrating Digital Synergy To Ireland Market

At Plastics Live Ireland, Stand D7, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag will showcase how the company seamlessly integrates three advanced automation and processing devices supplied by three premium partners into the intuitive NC5 Plus control featured on every IntElect machine.

Simulating this unified data exchange between machines, devices and systems from different manufacturers, visitors will be able to see how live data interacts with each other to analyse quality-related processing information. Integrating a Husky hot runner controller, a digital Flosense water manifold and robotics simulated by Hi-Tech Automation through the single NC5 Plus interface shows how all of the corresponding technologies can be merged to create complete processing synergy.

This open, standardised approach facilitates integrated, “factory-tested” production cells, highlights Kris Thacker, Technical Sales Manager at Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Ireland. Drawing upon his extensive experience of the company’s NC5 controller, Kris expands: “Connecting different devices and systems from various manufacturers improves efficiency, process stability, traceability, and value for polymer processors. But, to ensure smooth communication across all machines and robots, all elements – from sensors to process data – must speak the same language.”

Having a dedicated facility in Ireland means that the company is fully committed to supporting processors with these integration efforts utilising its extensive network of domestic periphery and automation partners. “Supporting over 400 machines, our collaborative approach to local customisations and delivering OPC UA factory-tested automated production cells is a huge efficiency and cost-saving benefit,” adds Kris.

Testament to the success of this integration approach, Hi-Tech Automation supported Nolato Jaycare last year by refurbishing existing de-moulding robots and re-tasked them as press-side automation and placed them in customised IntElect cells. The project won the Plastic Industry Award for Supplier Partnership – Injection Moulding 2024.
