From 24 to 27 September 2024 visitors to InnoTrans, the leading international trade show for transport technology, will be offered a range of solutions based around innovation and sustainability. The booth of Industrial IoT pioneer Advantech will showcase some of the most advanced railway-based systems on the market.
Future transportation trends predict a fusion of massive data computing, AI and 5G technologies that will enable a range of applications such as traffic flow analysis, smart traffic management, violation detection, driverless vehicles and much more. IoT technologies will drive transportation forward in the 21st century and modern integrated transportation infrastructures benefit society by improving safety, boosting local economies and helping to protect the environment. That’s why Advantech will focus on presenting InnoTrans visitors with a range of leading-edge solutions that are tailor-made for this highly demanding sector.
In hall 4.1 on booth 630, Advantech will highlight its expertise in communications, artificial intelligence (AI) and cyber security in the rail sector. Advantech will underline how having a strong relationship with its key partners – including Microsoft, Intel, Nvidia and Passengera – has enabled the company to optimise train operations by upgrading train on-board digital solutions.
Operators within the rail sector are continually looking for innovations that can have practical applications in the railway infrastructure. Backed by its extensive expertise in transport technology, Advantech is able to help operators looking to implement complicated projects through its range of advanced products as well as its eco-partners who are able to offer multiple solutions using Advantech products.
Passengera, a developer of comprehensive digital solutions for public transport – including trains, buses, and other means of transportation – will be exhibiting at the Advantech stand, where they will showcase their innovative solutions powered by Advantech products. The company’s central modular platform provides a digital experience through onboard infotainment, internet connectivity and monetisation tools for the transport industry. Passengera aims to enhance the passenger experience by offering reliable connectivity and engaging content, while also providing operators with tools to generate additional revenue and improve operational efficiency.
For example, Advantech, Passengera and Intel have developed a fully scalable modular solution that not only benefits passengers but also delivers significant efficiency and cost-effectiveness to operators. Hosted on a rail-compliant Advantech server featuring latest-generation Intel processor technology, the solution brings connected digital multimedia to rail networks. It also ensures shorter implementation timescales and allows operators to enhance passengers’ experience more rapidly. One company that has already benefited is České dráhy, the Czech Republic’s major rail operator. Thanks to Advantech, the company has been able to provide passengers with stable internet connection, online food ordering from their seats, customised data packages on international lines and even a centralised monitoring system that is capable of integrating hardware and services from a range of vendors.
A key product on show at the Advantech booth will be the EKI-9520 L3/L2 Managed Ethernet Switch, which is designed specifically for modern railway applications. Featuring multiple high-speed 10G ports to fulfil the demands of high speed bandwidth needed to support intelligent transportation system, the EKI-9520 includes 14 x 1G and 6 x 10G ports, delivering the high-speed data transmission rates that are crucial for handling the heavy data demands of modern train systems, autonomous mobility and interactive entertainment systems. With features like PoE/PoE+ support, the EKI-9520’s compliance with EN50155 standards ensures robust and reliable connectivity and power supply to connect multiple sensors, modules, and cameras. Its M12 connectors with ruggedised metal housing also make the switch ideal for the harsh environments of rail applications.
The EKI-9520’s high-speed capability supports Wi-Fi 6 technology through its multigigabit ports, contributing to more reliable wireless communication as well as enhanced passenger connectivity and operational efficiency. Finally, network integrity and safety are ensured by the switch’s comprehensive security features, which include 802.1x authentication, RADIUS, and TACACS+. These security features can be used with WebGUI, based on the cyber security compliant solution from Advantech to ensure secure on-train data transmission.
Another standout product from the Advantech portfolio, particularly highlighted during this exhibition, is designed specifically to real-time graphic analysis in AI applications, such as AI cameras for CCTV and security. It is the PC ITA-580G Rolling Stock AI System, equipped with 11th generation Intel® Core™ processors and NVIDIA Quadro MXM GPU. Also compliant with EN50155, as well as EN50121-3-2/EN50121-4, the device features a fanless MXM GPU design and supports NVIDIA Quadro MXM 3.1 type A/B form factor GPU module. The PC ITA-580G also delivers 5G integration, allowing it to function as an advanced all-in-one platform.
At InnoTrans, senior personnel from both Advantech and Passengera will be available to discuss with users the unrivalled benefits that the companies bring to the rail transportation sector in terms of innovation and sustainability.
Highlighting Advantech’s commitment to customized solutions, Alicja Strzemieczna, Sales Director CEE & Transportation Sector Leader at Advantech, explains: “Customised design is a strong differentiator for us because we do not offer just standard products to the market, we also specialise in a Design to Order System (DTOS) which enables us to create tailored products that are best suited to a specific need. Innovation is in our DNA which is why our customers appreciate that we can do so much more than provide some of the most advanced solutions in the rail sector today.”
Echoing this sentiment, Passengera CEO Jan Kolář adds: “By working closely together with Advantech, we have been able to focus on developing solutions for the key areas in the passenger rail sector – communication infrastructure, information platforms and operation efficiency. Reliable connectivity and flexible information platforms within trains is absolutely essential and the major operators in the rail sector, as well as system integrators, understand that our partnership with Advantech enables us to offer today a range of unrivalled and purpose-made solutions that are designed with the future of the industry in mind.”
