Act for the Future at Advanced Engineering

Trade show’s initiatives align with new sustainability report

Advanced Engineering, the UK’s premier engineering and manufacturing trade show, has aligned its new initiatives with event organiser Easyfairs’ “Act for the Future” strategy. The show, held at the NEC on 30 and 31 October, integrates a variety of sustainable practices that support the broader goals outlined in Easyfairs’ newly released sustainability report.

The “Act of the Future” strategy has three central pillars that are detailed in Easyfairs’ sustainability report. Firstly, Act for the Planet, which focusses on reducing environmental impact through initiatives in emissions reduction, energy efficiency, sustainable travel, waste elimination and eco-friendly food options.

Secondly, Act for Society emphasises supporting local and business communities in decarbonisation, boosting innovation, fostering start-ups and partnering with charities. Thirdly, Act for our People, promotes diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) alongside lifelong learning through the Easyfairs Academy’s “Boost Your Future” programme.

The Advanced Engineering trade show aligns with these goals having devised six sustainable schemes, tackling topics like transport, food and accommodation. The plans include carbon offsetting for all exhibitors and visitors, a paper-free event strategy and providing reusable and recyclable materials for stands.

The event also features a Best Sustainable Stand competition and a Sustainability Trail. The trail highlights exhibitors who are leading the way in green technologies and practices, helping companies explore solutions that ensure they can meet increasing government targets.

What’s more, Advanced Engineering aims to demonstrate a new standard for promoting sustainable practices in the engineering sector and reducing the environmental impact of industry events in general.

“The event dedicates significant programming to sustainability topics,” said Alison Willis, CEO of Easyfairs UK, the organiser of Advanced Engineering. “It offers educational content aimed at promoting sustainable engineering practices and innovations. The website also includes detailed advice for exhibitors on minimising their environmental impact.

“By spotlighting start-ups, with the Enabling Innovation Zone, Advanced Engineering helps to drive development of sustainable technologies and practices. This not only supports new businesses but also encourages the adoption of cutting-edge solutions to environmental challenges too.”

These efforts are part of a broader strategy by Easyfairs, giving a transparent overview of performance up to the end of 2023 and looking forward to further progress in pursuit of its Act for the Future strategy.
