Leuze Expands Its LiDAR Lineup with the New ROD 100 Switching Laser Scanners

Compact, high-speed sensors for reliable object detection, collision protection, and load position monitoring in dynamic industrial environments.

Leuze rounds off its laser scanner portfolio with the new ROD 100 series switching devices complementing the ROD 300 and ROD 500 series measuring laser scanners. These detect objects precisely and are ideally suited for collision protection and load position checking tasks.

Leuze presents the new ROD 100 series, rounding off their laser scanner portfolio with LiDAR technology. The switching sensors reliably detect one or more objects. They can also be used for collision protection on automated guided vehicle systems (AGVs). They thus complement the ROD 300 laser scanner series’ measuring devices, designed for efficient contour measurement, and the ROD 500 series for exact AGV navigation. The ROD100 is also ideally suited for load position checking tasks.

High scanning frequency of 80 Hz

The ROD 100 series laser scanners stand out for their scanning frequency of 80 Hz at an angular resolution of 0.2°. This allows high traverse and transport speeds, for example in fast-moving AGVs. The high switching frequency also ensures precise and reliable object detection on conveyor lines. With their three independent outputs, the laser scanners enable multiple presence checks at the same time. Users can adjust the ROD 100 series’ detection ranges via 16 switchable configurations and thus adapt them to different object sizes, for example. All directions of travel can be mapped and monitored on automated guided vehicles (AGVs) with the ROD 100 series’ devices. This allows the system to be used in complex and dynamic environments.

Avoid failures

Predictive maintenance offers practical advantages: The ROD 100 series’ laser scanners continuously monitor their viewing window to detect soiling early. If a defined threshold value is exceeded, a maintenance message is automatically sent. This type of predictive maintenance contributes to high system availability.

Reliable from freezing to hot

All devices in the ROD series are designed to be robust thanks to their protection class IP 67, resistant housing and wide temperature tolerance. They always work reliably even in demanding environments from -30°C to +60°C. This makes the laser scanners ideal for use in deep-freeze applications. They are also suitable for high temperatures, such as those found in battery production. The laser scanners’ compact design also offers advantages in intralogistics: With dimensions of around 80 x 80 x 85 millimeters, the sensors can be integrated even into small installation spaces in mobile vehicles.
