Journolink Reassures SMEs on AI Opportunities While Warning of Growing Compliance Risks

UK media platform urges small businesses to pair AI capabilities with human oversight, emphasising that automated content must be verified to protect brand trust and regulatory standing.

Journolink, the public relations platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), is urging UK small businesses to confidently embrace artificial intelligence (AI) while establishing essential human checks to avoid reputational and regulatory pitfalls.

AI adoption among UK small businesses has more than doubled, rising from 22% in 2025 to 47% today. As SMEs increasingly adopt AI to draft copy, create social posts, and produce PR campaigns, many risk assuming that automated output is inherently accurate, safe, or compliant. Journolink stresses that while AI offers small businesses access to capabilities historically reserved for large marketing budgets, accountability for published content remains entirely with the business.

“Businesses should absolutely embrace AI,” said Angus Hay, Director of Journolink. “It is genuinely transformational – helping small businesses create better content, reach the right audiences, and compete on a completely different level. The message is not ‘be afraid of AI’; it is ‘use AI intelligently and strategically’. The businesses that will benefit most are those that combine the speed and power of AI with human judgement, proper checks, and a clear understanding of the rules.”

Common blind spots facing SMEs without dedicated legal teams include:

  • Unsubstantiated Claims: Publishing AI-generated wording such as “guaranteed results” without verifying whether the claim can be legally backed.
  • Fabricated Endorsements: Distributing AI-crafted testimonials that lack real customer backing, risking regulatory breaches over misleading advertising.
  • Unverified Statistics: Releasing AI content with authoritative-sounding data that cannot be traced to a real source.
  • Data Protection Risks: Inputting sensitive or customer data into public AI models without considering data-handling requirements.

To help businesses navigate these challenges, Journolink advocates treating AI output as a draft rather than a finished product. The company’s own VOLT engine – which drafts press releases and generates tailored PR suggestions – is built around mandatory editorial oversight, ensuring users review all content before media distribution.

By embedding fact-checking, transparency, and human review into daily workflows, SMEs can fully leverage AI’s efficiency without sacrificing customer trust. As AI becomes a standard tool in marketing, Journolink reminds small business leaders of one core rule: the machine may write the content, but the business owns the final outcome.
