Ryder Industries launches off-the-shelf modules

Ryder Industries, a premium provider of electronics manufacturing services, is providing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) access to a range of off-the-shelf electronic modules. These include Bluetooth and other RF solutions, power amplifiers and switch-mode power supplies, providing validated functional building blocks that can help reduce development time and cost, while giving OEMs an alternative when supply chain disruption affects component availability.

Rather than developing functions such as wireless connectivity or audio amplification from scratch, OEMs can integrate an existing Ryder module into their product and focus their engineering resources on the elements that differentiate the finished design.

The wireless portfolio covers a range of IoT requirements, from short-range, low-power Bluetooth connectivity for power-sensitive devices to Wi-Fi 6, LoRa and Wi-SUN for industrial and wide-area applications.

For example, Ryder’s Bluetooth 5.4 module supports low-power, two-way communication and mesh networking, while its Wi-SUN module is designed for large-scale, low-power outdoor IoT networks.

The portfolio also includes the RSD200A power amplifier module, a 200W Class-D amplifier designed for audio applications.

In addition, Ryder offers dedicated switch-mode power supply modules for audio equipment, providing manufacturers with a ready-made option for power conversion alongside its amplifier modules.

“Modules can remove a significant amount of development work for an OEM,” said Wilson Chan, VP Engineering at Ryder Industries Ltd. “One customer approached us after experiencing availability problems with a module from another supplier during a period of supply chain disruption.

“We developed our own version using the same RF chip, giving the customer a reliable alternative while retaining control over the module’s software, firmware and intellectual property.

“Because we also develop the firmware, we can provide the source code and give the customer greater control over the solution. The Ryder module was also around 30 per cent cheaper than the equivalent off-the-shelf product, while providing a reliable supply route.”

The modules have also undergone external laboratory testing and validation, including testing against relevant electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements.

EMC is a significant consideration during product development because, although customers need to complete testing on their finished products, starting with a module that has already demonstrated compliance helps to simplify and accelerate the process.
