Discover WEG’s Latest Advancements at SPS Italia 2025

A glimpse into the future of automation

WEG, the leading manufacturer of motors, drives, and gearboxes, is set to showcase its latest innovations at SPS Italia 2025, taking place from May 13 to 15 in Parma, Italy. At hall 3, stand G051, WEG will highlight its advancements in motion drives, control solutions and digital technologies, reinforcing its commitment to improving industrial efficiency across key sectors such as metal, plastic, logistics, water and paper.

The centrepiece of WEG’s exhibition will be the W23 Sync+ motor paired with the CFW900 variable speed drive (VSD), an energy-efficient combination designed to optimise motor performance and extend equipment lifespan. This hybrid permanent magnet (PM) and synchronous reluctance (SynRM) motor technology exceeds current industry standards by surpassing anticipated IE6 efficiency levels. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see a cutaway model of the W23 Sync+ motor alongside a complete W23 Sync+ ULTRA motor.

Continuing its focus on motion drives, WEG will present the TPD500, a newly developed AC/DC converter. The TPD500 seamlessly integrates into Ethernet-based fieldbus systems, enabling remote control and Wi-Fi connectivity. Designed for demanding applications such as industrial hoisting, metal processing, cableways, test benches, plastic and rubber processing, electromagnet control and electrolysis processes, it combines backward compatibility with improved accuracy in current and speed control.

“The evolved TPD500 delivers a comprehensive motion solution that enhances both efficiency and reliability, addressing the diverse demands of DC motor control across various industries,” explained Paolo Rovesti, head of sales of WEG Automation Europe. “With its backward compatibility and improved accuracy, the TPD500 is ideal for both system retrofits and new installations. Supporting key communication protocols such as Profinet, Ethernet-IP, Modbus TCP, and Ethercat, along with flexible installation options and intuitive programming, it ensures seamless configuration for a wide range of applications.”

To support industrial safety and automation, WEG will also showcase its control solutions, including safety relays and panels. This type of equipment monitors circuits to assure compliance with the most up-to-date safety standards, always seeking to achieve maximum efficiency and dependability in a single product. These products play a critical role in enhancing operational protection and efficiency across various industries.

Additionally, visitors can explore WEG’s latest digital solutions, featuring a demonstration unit for the Motion Fleet Management (MFM) system. This cloud-based platform, combined with WEGscan technologies, offers real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance for motors and drives, helping businesses improve performance and reduce downtime.

“This year, SPS Italia is focusing on key advancements such as Industry 5.0, AI-driven manufacturing and cybersecurity for smart factories — topics that align perfectly with WEG’s mission. Our digital solutions like the Motion Fleet Management system are helping manufacturers transition towards truly autonomous production,” said Fabrizio Arosio, motion drives and automation manager. “We are committed to fostering a learning ecosystem where engineers and operators continuously upskill, while also embracing sustainable and secure digital transformation.”

The W80 AXgen, an axial flux motor developed for compact and sustainable applications, will also be on display. Unlike traditional radial flux motors, its innovative design enhances torque and performance while reducing size and weight. Available in frame sizes ranging from 250 to 400, it provides greater flexibility for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system integrators, optimising industrial applications while lowering logistics costs and environmental impact.

All these products will be displayed as integrated offers, known as the WEGmotion Drives package. These flexible solutions combine WEG’s advanced motors, drives, gearboxes and digital technologies into seamless systems designed to optimise industrial productivity. By combining energy-efficient technologies with a streamlined, all-in-one system, WEGmotion Drives helps reduce operational costs, lower CO₂ emissions and ensure that industries meet ESG standards.
