Mitsubishi Electric Opens New Manufacturing Plant for Factory Automation Systems in Maharashtra, India

Mitsubishi Electric has opened a manufacturing facility for advanced factory automation (FA) systems in the Talegaon Industrial area, Maharashtra, India. The 2.2 billion INR (24.5 million EUR) facility will manufacture inverters and other FA products, expanding the company’s capabilities to meet growing demand across Indian industries such as automobiles, food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, data centres and textiles.

Mitsubishi Electric’s Indian FA systems business has been operating since the mid-1990s. It received a major boost after acquiring a local manufacturer of FA systems in 2012, and has continued to strengthen its business structure by establishing a local engineering team, expanding service and support capabilities, and, since 2013, manufacturing products locally.

The new two-floor, 15,400m2 factory is built on a site near the city of Pune, Maharashtra. It will help expand Mitsubishi Electric’s production capabilities to meet local demand for products and contribute to the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative.

The new factory has been designed with several features aimed at achieving carbon neutrality. It limits carbon dioxide emissions by using highly efficient air-conditioning systems and LED lighting equipment, and reuses wastewater through underground filtration treatment and greening, allowing it to meet its initial sustainable development goals (SDGs).
