EMS Expands Modular Motion Offering

Bühler’s broader bMotion range enables faster development for tailored motion system design

Drive system supplier and the UK distributor for Bühler Motor, Electro Mechanical Systems (EMS) has broadened its offering with the expansion of Bühler’s modular bMotion drive platform. The platform now includes new 40 millimetre (mm) and 51 mm motor sizes, in addition to the existing 63 mm offering. This expanded range gives design engineers even more freedom to configure motion systems precisely suited to their applications.

Bühler’s bMotion platform is designed to give engineers maximum flexibility in building motion systems. It offers a range of pre-defined motors, gearheads, encoders, brakes and controllers that can be mixed and matched to meet specific application needs.

Instead of developing a fully customised drive from scratch, bMotion allows design engineers to configure a tailored solution quickly and efficiently. The inclusion of two new motor sizes gives engineers more choice, enabling them to better tailor drive systems using modular components, achieve greater performance-to-cost ratio and shorten project timelines.

“This update to the bMotion range opens up new possibilities for OEMs and design engineers seeking more precise performance matches without long development cycles,” said Mike Davies, managing director at EMS. “By extending the platform to include new sizes, EMS can now offer customers an even closer fit to their application requirements — from medical devices to industrial automation where precision and reliability is non-negotiable.”

“It also means we can now support a wider range of design challenges with shorter lead times and proven combinations, reducing engineering overhead while maintaining the highest standards of quality and performance.

“This isn’t just about adding new motor sizes — it’s about expanding what’s possible for our customers,” added Davies. “Whether it’s reducing development cycles, meeting tight space constraints, or improving cost efficiency, the enhanced bMotion platform gives design engineers the tools they need to innovate with confidence.”
