Bold Laser Automation Expands Non-Contact Device Inspection with 3DS High-Resolution System

Bold Laser Automation, Inc., a leader in precision laser and metrology solutions, announced an addition to its 3DS non-contact measurement platforms, the 3DS1410 3D Scanning and  Measurement System.

The 3DS1410 3D system is engineered for inspection and measurement, offering manufacturers a reliable, high-accuracy solution for production quality control, with quick-load/unload capability for efficient operation. Inspection is designed for complex analysis of:

  • Polymers and textiles in tube form
  • Woven and non-woven materials
  • Coextruded, braided tubing
  • Micro-machined stainless-steel components

“This latest system expands our 3DS Series with an enclosed  platform for non-contact, fast, and high accuracy measurements for development and production environments,” said Todd E. Lizotte, CEO and co-founder of Bold Laser Automation.

Equipped with the Keyence LJ-X8020 Laser Profiler Sensor Head and 2D/3D controller, this system provides precise, repeatable data critical for medical devices and other advanced manufacturing applications.

Key Features of the 3DS1410 3D system:

  • High-Resolution 3D Scanning: The LJ-X8020 delivers detailed 3D profiling for tubing and complex geometries.
  • Precision Motion Control: XY ball screw linear motion with a 1 µm encoder resolution ensures ±0.008 mm repeatability across a 14-inch x 10-inch scanning area.
  • Flexible Fixturing: A soft mandrel/spindle clamp and mandrel base array allow secure batch measurement of medical devices.
  • Compact, Configurable Design: A standalone, enclosed system with a working height of 36 inches, the system is suitable for labs or production floors.
  • User-Friendly Interface: The software is powered by the Keyence control suite with encoder integration, CPU, and HMI display for simple setup and operation.
  • Compliance & Safety: Meets UL and NFPA 79 electrical standards, operating on single-phase 100–220 VAC.

“The 3DS1410 is tailored for manufacturers who need high accuracy inspection,” said Lizotte. “By combining Keyence’s advanced scanning technology with Bold’s precision motion and fixturing, we’ve built a cost-effective platform that delivers repeatable results and accelerates product validation.”

Built for Advanced Manufacturing

With its configurable scanning, robust fixturing, and motion repeatability, the 3DS1410 is ideally suited for manufacturers in the medical device, textiles, and advanced materials industries. Its compact design and affordability make it an excellent choice for both R&D labs and full-scale production facilities.
